The Blackbird's performance and operational achievements placed it at the pinnacle of aviation technology developments during the Cold War. Of the 32 aircraft built, 12 were destroyed in accidents, and none lost to enemy action. This one is on display at the Smithsonian's Udvar-Hazy Center near Washington, DC.
